Our overriding purpose is to discover medical evidence and clinical insights which will contribute to the management and prevention of vision loss. As a charity we rely heavily on the support of the community and organisations to ensure quality research, services and education by Tasmanian Eye Institute is ongoing.
Tasmanian Eye Institute has the highest Australian Tax Office and Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC) status and it is an endorsed Deductable Gift Recipient (DGR). This means all donations over $2.00 are fully tax deductable and Philanthropic Ancillary Funds (PAF) are eligible to support us.
Since 2008 we have been involved in numerous research projects including international multi-centre clinical trials. One of the most significant global impact research areas has been femtosecond laser in cataract surgery.
Through education Tasmanian Eye Institute has provided a training pathway for junior doctors seeking a career in ophthalmology with some of our previous research fellows already now qualified. Tasmanian Eye Institute supervises and supports medical students doing research as part of their medical degree.
We service the wider public through our continuing education of local Optometrists, GP’s and the public. Tasmanian Eye Institute actively assists fighting global blindness by donating glasses to areas of need. By buying a pair of glasses you are assisting us in raising funds to achieve this.
